Codebase Coworking Community Manager

Full Job Description
Are you passionate about helping people? Do you want to help develop a meaningful brand? Are you inspired by meeting new people who are doing interesting things? Are you excited to learn new skills? Do you have a can-do attitude?  If so, read on.

We are looking for a full-time associate to join our team in creating a shared workspace community that will make a positive impact on the Charlottesville business ecosystem.  This is a great opportunity for someone with at least one year of professional work experience (more is great too) who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Because this is a new business, it will be like working in a start-up; you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of work activities. In the beginning phases, you will help us create the brand and build a community of engaged Codebase coworking members.  And as the business grows, so will you.

ABOUT Codebase Coworking
Codebase is an amenity rich shared workspace environment specifically designed to serve business professionals and entrepreneurs. We are located on the first 2 floors of the CODE Building on the west end of the Downtown Mall. Codebase will be home a diverse mix of more than 200 community members representing a broad range of industry sectors.  A special focus on entrepreneurship and startup energy will be apparent from the types of curated events and gatherings.  The physical space covers almost 20,000 square feet.  The space is divided between private offices, open space work areas and open space common areas.  Codebase also has conference rooms, a 200 seat auditorium, a podcast studio, in addition to several other amenities. Codebase will serve the greater Charlottesville community.

You will join our Community Team as a ‘first hire’ which eventually will be comprised of a small group of full-time employees with a goal of satisfying the day-to-day needs of our members. Some work will be independent, while at other times it will require collaboration with other Codebase team members.

Potential responsibilities will include:

  • Giving tours and introducing new members to Codebase and the CODE building.
  • Business development and community engagement.
  • Assisting in onboarding new members to our computer and operational systems.
  • Helping support the concierge function and contributing to the quality of our front desk experience.
  • Developing relationships with Codebase members.
  • Creatively finding ways to meet a broad range of member requests.
  • Responding to requests efficiently and personally – you will be given the tools and knowledge to answer just about any request that comes your way.
  • Ensuring that regular systems are operating smoothly and assisting when necessary.
  • Assisting members who need help preparing a conference room for a special event.
  • Assisting other team members with special projects.
  • Stocking and maintaining supply areas throughout Codebase.
  • Upholding and maintaining COVID-19 safety standards and best practices with members.

You are a service-minded person who is reliable, clever, and able to work independently. While it is not expected that you’ll know everything that needs to be done on day one, it is important that you are pleasant, intelligent, interested in the Codebase mission, and willing to learn.

In this role, you could find yourself troubleshooting technology devices, supporting a member event, or helping other team members develop their skills. Do you have skills in technology, facilities work, hands-on work, or managing others? If so, let us know!

More specifically, as our ideal candidate, you are:

  • Self-motivated with the desire to learn all aspects of our business.
  • Personable and naturally enjoy helping others.
  • Detail oriented and organized with solid time management skills.
  • Someone who takes ownership over tasks and follows them through to completion.
  • A team player with capacity to foster and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working with everyone, treating everyone as an equal.
  • Someone who brings a fresh perspective and new ideas to everything.
  • Able to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience.
  • Full-time availability
  • A natural interest for helping/supporting others.
  • An interest in helping to grow the Codebase community.

If you don’t meet all the requirements or qualifications but bring some other unique skills and experience that would be valuable in this role, please apply and highlight those attributes for me in your cover letter.

  • Starting compensation is $43,000 per year.
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Two weeks of vacation from the start, plus thirteen paid holidays.

In addition to helping our members achieve great things, as we grow, we will work to ensure that our employees are healthy and supported. Some of the future benefits of being here include:

  • Fun people in a dynamic space. We will find driven and bright collaborators who are eager to lend their own unique skills to the team, as well as to our inspiring members. But the number one reason you’ll like working here is because of the CODE/Codebase Team!
  • Personal growth. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop skills within the epicenter of the innovation in Central Virginia.
  • Contributing to honing existing practices and processes, creating things from scratch, and building out new initiatives specific to Charlottesville and the Central Virginia Area (i.e. wellness, arts, coding school, etc.).
  • Access to meet ups and gatherings involving high-impact programming designed to engage the broader entrepreneurial community.
  • Did we mention a great environment? Expertly designed workspace that inspires innovation and community on the Downtown Mall.

If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, please send your resume with a cover letter addressed to me at the email address below.
